HBO’s Aaron Sorkin-created “The Newsroom” opened to 2.1 million viewers on Sunday, making it the 3rd best debut for a drama series since 2008 (“Boardwalk Empire” had 4.8 million and “Game of Thrones” 2.2 million).
The new series chronicles the behind-the-camera events at the fictional Cable News Network (ACN). The ensemble cast is lead by Jeff Daniels as the head-strong news anchor Will McAvoy. McAvoy, together with his dedicated staff, set out to report the news “in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements.”
Other cast members include Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire”), Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr., Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, and Sam Waterston.
