Leonardo Dicaprio will soon lavish audiences with his 3D portrayal of Jay Gatsby in the latest cinematic interpretation of F. Scott Fiztgerald’s 1925 novel “The Great Gatsby” (Recall Robert Redford’s 1974 version).
Fitzgerald’s story follows would-be writer Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner transplanted to Long Island, who finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish bootleg-and-jazz drenched lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby’s inner circle, bearing witness to obsession, tragedy and deceit.
The Baz Luhrmann (Australia, Moulin Rouge!) directed film also stars Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan and Tobey Maguire as the above mentioned Nick Carraway.
Filming of “The Great Gatsby” began on September 5, 2011 in Sydney, Australia. The film is scheduled to be released in Real D 3D and 2D cinemas on December 25, 2012 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
