Irish leading man Pierce Brosnan hasn’t been the front and center in a true action movie since his shift as James Bond 007 ended in 2002.

The Hollywood Reporter and some European outlets are currently reporting that Brosnan may be starring as an Irish Republican Army hitman who serves 20 guilt-ridden years in jail for murder.  Upon his release he decides to cleanse his conscience by exacting revenge on behalf of his past victims.

The film is based upon Northern Irish author Stuart Neville’s critically acclaimed novel “The Twelve”, aka “The Ghosts Of Belfast”.  The screenplay was penned by “The Late Late Show’s” Craig Ferguson and the program’s writer Ted Mulkerin.  Casting is reportedly underway on the project and production could begin as early as fall 2013.
