Universal Pictures announced Wednesday that it has moved the release date of the Seth Macfarlane’s “Ted” up from the assumed July 13 launch date to June 29th.  The shift was spurred by news that Paramount’s “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” would vacate the late June date and push back in order to “upgrade” their product to 3D.

MacFarlane wrote, directed, and produced the feature, while also lending his voice to the potty-mouthed teddy bear for whom the project is named. Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis co star in the R-rated comedy about a full grown man and his complicated relationship with a stuffed animal.

The smooth scheduling move gives “Ted” a few more weeks of prime summer screen time as well as a nice ramp up going into the always lucrative 4th of July weekend.
