NBC announced Thursday that it would be airing “Mockingbird Lane”, its remake of the classic comedy “The Munsters”, On October 26 as a Holloween Special. (See artists rendition of the new Munster abode above).

The project, which has been in development for 2 years at NBC, had been thought dead and buried (pun intended?) until the news broke of the special airing.  Approximately $10 million has been invested in the teetering concept to date.

“Mockingbird Lane” is based on a script from executive producer Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies”) and is directed by executive producer Bryan Singer (“X-Men”).  The hour-long drama tells a darker version of the Munster family tale. Jerry O’Connell stars as Herman Munster, Portia di Rossi plays the wife, Lily, Eddie Izzard puts a new spin on the “Grandpa” role, and Mason Cook and Charity Wakefield portray the Munster tots, Eddie and Marilyn
